Disznókő presents Kapi Vineyard’s 2011 vintage

Christian Seely, Managing Director of AXA Millésimes, and László Mészáros, Manager  of  Disznókő,  are  pleased  to  present  our  third  vintage  of  Disznókő  Kapi Vineyard Tokaji Aszú 6 puttonyos. Following the vintages of 1999 and 2005, the 2011 vintage will be available at our best cellars this September.

This single vineyard wine is extremely rare.  It is made only when the Kapi Vineyard distinctively expresses its own personality and with only the most perfect aszú berries from this parcel.

Kapi is a single vineyard plot situated in the upper part (150 – 180 m above sea level) of the southern slopes of Disznókő. A unique terroir with a volcanic, lighter clay soil containing a lot of rhyolite gravels. It is planted with Furmint, the noblest and most ancient Tokaj variety. Its special character: Furmint mirrors the terroir. The grapes ripen late and easily become aszú berries, retaining excellent acidity.

The 2011 vintage in Tokaji was hot, dry and stood out by its early ripening and leisurely botrytis growth, producing aszú grapes of quite exceptional quality. The desiccated grapes endowed our wines with concentration and elegance, set off nicely by beautifully supple acidity. The aszú grapes were picked with extreme care by hand, one by one, with three successive sortings between 28 September and 11 November 2011, then steeped in a Furmint-based must. This lengthy process allows the fruits to express all their richness and aromas.

In 2011, only 4,654 individually numbered bottles were produced.

With its green-tinted pale gold colour, this freshest of wines rolls out scents of white fruit, apricot, lime, peach, pineapple, tropical fruit, along with a hint of wood. It is powerful on the palate with great finesse and gentle acidity.
